60 JCMS", and the third at Tokyo on Jan. 1951 about „Social Activities of JCMS". PRESENT AND FUTURE. Novif we have established 10 local branches throughout the Japanese Islands, namely Sapporo, Morioka, Niigata, Tokyo (central office), Nagoya, Kyoto, Osaka, Okayama, Fukuoka and Kurume. Usually, local offices are placed in local medical colleges. In the society there are now about 225 physicians, 177 students, 190 nurses and 24 supporting members. In some places doctors, students and nurses meet in separate groups but in others they have meetings and services together. We publish a Journal named „Medicine and Gospel" quarterly and monthly news. In each branch they have regular meetings for discussion, seminars, Bible study, nurse group meetings etc., and also they open clinics, Sunday schools for the poor in the cities, villages and wretched repatriates. Other members are making efforts to build Christian hospitals and in other social activities. In Japan especially, as mentioned above, disasters occur at many places every year, and when these occur our members usually set up medical clinics for the sufferers. Since there are and will be established many Christian hospitals, tuberculous sanatoria, leper asylums, orphanages, homes for widows, etc. And for these social services there is an urgent need of Christians with talent not only among physicians, nurses, pharmacists and business men, but also to bear the Christian responsibility among students in order to get more mutual strength, encouragement and blessings to present a positive witness for our Father and Jesus Christ; to the present demoralized community. Some members were abroad as medical missionaries especially in China, Manchuria and South Asian countries before the war, but after the war since they all have been sent back to Japan by order, they aspire to go back to former positions again or to new fields as early as possible. As one of the factors, which now disturbs our progress there are the financial difficulties in the present Japan, and we regret very much not to be able to enlarge and to promote the activities of our society due to these obstacles, but we have faith in our hearts, which will help to solve these difficulties, and also we know that this is the hope of Christians given by our Lord. Christian Medical Society in Japan c/o National Committee YMCA's of Japan 2-1-chome, Nishikands, Chiyodaku Tokyo, Japan.
