24 fully to the part in the scientific life of the day, by yet discerning the spirit of the time, testing its expressions critically by the standards of God's word. Take into account the truths of the scriptures regarding the beginning and the end of things, concerning the order in the reality of creation; acknov^^ledgement of the imperfection of our knowledge because man is sinful, but relying also on the reality of our knowing, because science is a gift received from God; rejection of the overestimation of scientific thinking and defining its limits; but on the other hand complete acknowledgement of the value of inductive scientific research and its findings, because the revelation of nature is also from God." (Orgaan 1946, p. 144). The Association started with ±: 30 members. At present it has 434 members and 148 aspirants (undergraduates). An important factor to enable the Association to function properly appeared to be the publication of its own periodical. It has become one of the most important means to establish and to keep up the contact between the members. It is a storehouse of information about which held the attention in the course of the years. „Faith and Science" will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 1952. It is surprising that natural philosophers and physicians should have stayed in the same association from the very beginning. Yet it has frequently been urged that the physicians should be organised more independently especially with a view to the social side of the work of the physician, to which no full justice is done in the association. Yet the advantage of the combination so far maintained should by no means be underestimated. It is true the subjects are not dealt with as exhaustively as would otherwise be the case, because the speaker has to take in account that he addresses all sorts and conditions of people. Here, on the other hand, more than in a separate organisation is experienced the university bond and this contributes to universal vision. However, the urge towards the development of the groups according to their own nature led in 1929 to the formation of sections consisting of members who pursue one particular branch of study, each section having its own board and acting independently. Thus a medical and a physical section was formed; in 1946 followed by a section for dental surgeons. That the association has hitherto paid so little attention to international contact is generally felt as a shortcoming. Therefore the asso-
