9 lead us now after several centuries of neglect back to a teleological explanation of the disease. The disease, either organic or not, cannot fully be understood only by scientific studies of its psychological, anatomical and physical mechanisms. It has a „sense", the discovery of which is of as much importance for the recovery as the pathogenic processes. This „sense" is not accessible for science, for it is bent towards the destination of man, his spiritual aspect. So the point is to develop a new medical idea enlightened both by science and Biblical revelation. Finally the point is ourselves, our vocation and our personal life. As regards the technical part, our actual knowledge matters only. But as physicians called to help our patients to discover the „sense" of their disease, to achieve a really human contact with them, to re-educate them, to bring them to a life more in accordance with God's plan, we have to give ourselves. So our own obedience to God, our devotion, the disposition of our personal life and that of our family matter more than our acting and thinking. So the point is renewal of medicine, which nas to begin with ourselves. It is an immense task in which we all need each other. The first step is learning to know each other better above the variety of our countries, our confessions and our specialities. To contribute to this end we offer the reader a sort of fresco, a great panorama to vdden his horizon. ES HANDELT SICH UM EINEN VERSUCH Wir verdanken die Anregung dazu dem bekannten schwedischen Psychiater Dr R. Eeg-Olofsson. Auf einer der „Semaines internationales de meditation et d'étude de médecine de la personne", die seit 1947 jedes Jahr im Oekomenischen Institut in Bossey stattfinden, schlug er vor, ein Kontaktorgan zu gründen zwischen allen Medizinern, die nach einer geistigen Wiederlebung der Medizin, welche durch die christliche Offenbarung beseelt wird, streben. Versuchsweise und als ersten Schritt hat er vorgeschlagen, diese Nummer erscheinen zu lassen, welche für die Abonnenten der verschiedenen Zeitschriften christlicher Aerzte bestimmt ist. Diesen Plan bat er zusammen mit Herm Dr J. ten Kate, Chirurg im Haag, verwirklicht: beiden Kollegen bezeugen wir hier unsren nerzlichen Dank. Es handelt sich um einen Versuch und wir bitten unsre Leser uns ihre Bemerkungen hierüber und ihre Meinung für die Zukunft mitzuteilen. Wir hoffen, dass dieser erste Schritt uns nicht nur die Einstimmung, sondern auch die Stütze und Zusammenarbeid zahireicher Kollegen bringen wird beim Streben nach der Ausgabe eines internationalen interkonfessionellen und alle Specialitaten umfassenden Organs christlicher Aerzte.
