A SIMPLE STORY.
E was a clerk in a great commercial house.
Besides he was a well educated young man,
rather good looking, with a very sympathie face.
At least s h e thought it a sympathie face. S h e
was a typewriter and every morning, when they went each
to their office they met
T h e first time, he had met her, he only had seen she
was a girl. The second time he saw she was a very pretty-
faced girl and so bye and bye he observed, that she had
rosy cheeks and lovely little light brown curls peeping from
under her hat, that, though simply, she was dressed with
much taste and last not least, that she had true hearted,
sunny blue eyes.
She soon realized that he paid attention to her and
could not but think him very sympathie, especially for the
way, in which he looked at her, not brutally and straight-
way into her face, as some young men do, but with some
reverance, as it seemed to her.
So they had soon got accustomed to each other and
would not have liked to miss their daily meeting, though
no word had ever been spoken between them.
When free from business, h e liked to sit at home
smoking his pipe by the fireside and thinking of her; and
so he soon came to the conclusion, that he had fallen in love
and that she would be the best wife in the world. Then
he began so fancy, how lovely it would be when he could
speak to her. "But", thought he, "she is a respectable girl,
so that I cannot speak to her in the street. And when she
