of Christ's sufferings, that when His glory shall be revealed, you may be glad with exceeding joy." Paul found his answer when he said, „Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities that the power of Christ may rest upon me; for when I am weak, then am I strong." Christian relatives need to be reminded that God can use suffering in their lives to teach them to trust Him. Also, many verses tell us that adversity and suffering call forth patience, hope, and the other fruits of the Spirit. Even Jesus learned joy and obedience through suffering : „Who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross" and „Though He were a Son, yet learned He obedience by the things He suffered." Anyone who will turn to God and ask why this suffering is occurring will find the answer. Often you, as the only available Christian, can be used of God to answer the questions and to help the patient and his relatives either to find Christ as Savior or to accept His will. Perhaps the most important aspect of managing the relatives is to feel our Christian responsibility to them. Daily prayer and awareness of witnessing opportunities are foremost in every part of our Christian walk, but especially in this, our profession. -^ —Harriet Hanson, M.D. GmERAL

PROBLEMS

1. Be ready always. But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear. 1 Peter 3 : 15. 2. Pray for the working of the Holy Spirit. 3. Remember that the Bible itself gives the greatest comfort. 4. Tell the patient the truth; accentuate the hopeful but be careful not to give false hope. 5. When pain fights against his interest and concentration, pray for his clarity of mind; when he is unable to read for himself, quote Scripture for him. Give him your own testimony and possibly testimonies of others. 6. There is a tendency, especially with the chronically ill, to shun witnessing because it is not the primary responsibility of the physician. However, every patient should be witnessed to, preferably early in the morning. Internes and residents should be sure to get the attending physician's permission. SUGGESTED 1. 2. 3. 4.
